Mechanical assembly

Mechanical assembly

"The right people, resources and tools in the right place at the right time."

From design and prototyping to logistics, we take care of it. In this, we maintain full chain control, including all technical and logistical support. At every stage, we know the leading techniques, theories and working methods. We are efficient, careful and fast. And always with a complete focus on our customers' needs.

  • 1. What industries do you perform mechanical assembly for?

Confed performs mechanical assembly for almost every industry. We have already delivered numerous finished products to companies in the fields of science, plant engineering and traffic management, among others. Because of our broad knowledge in various industries and network of different suppliers, we can meet any challenge.

  • 2. What techniques and testing methods do you use for mechanical assembly?

Control and testing procedures are drawn up together with you. These are safeguarded with comprehensive work instructions. Thus, upon request, we can perform and document every control grade and measurement. With the right measuring equipment and people on hand, we guarantee that every product leaves the shop floor according to the agreed specifications.

  • 3. What are decoupling moments?

With decoupling moments, we ensure that we can combine larger production runs with single-piece production to customer specifications. For example, in larger series we assemble control cabinets with standard basic elements for a customer to store as a semi-finished product. Based on this cabinet, a unique cabinet is then assembled on a project basis with the unique elements for that project. Thus, we assemble unique product in single pieces with the price advantage gained from series production.

  • 4. Where is mechanical assembly performed at Confed?

At our facility in Amersfoort, the Netherlands, we assemble customer-specific electrotechnical modules with a wide variety of variants. Some of the underlying components we produce ourselves, such as the PCBs and cable harness assemblies. The other components are purchased under our direction. These include industrial PCs, cooling and heating equipment, steel and plastic enclosures and electronic switching components.

Low Mix/High Volume and High Mix/Low volume

Confed has extensive experience when it comes to the mechanical assembly of finished products and subassemblies. From complete end products such as traffic management systems and sunlight lamps to subassemblies of boiling water taps. We have both the knowledge and know-how for serial assembly of large numbers and for assembly of small numbers of modules in numerous variations.

Module Construction

At our facility in Amersfoort we assemble customer-specific electrotechnical modules with a wide variety of variants. Some of the underlying components we can produce ourselves, such as the PCBAs and the wiring harness assemblies. The remaining components are purchased under our direction. These include industrial PCs, cooling and heating equipment, steel and plastic enclosures and electronic switching components.

Operations

Whether it's mechanical assembly or electrical work, we don't turn our hand to performing complex assembly work. For this we have the right resources, the right tooling and the right people. Which techniques we use depends entirely on the issue and our solutions are always tailored to the situation. From manual assembly to a fully automated process including integrated quality controls. Many applications are possible such as gluing, riveting, mechanical fastening, screwing, pressing and synthetic resin encapsulation.

Logistical systems

At our facility in Amersfoort we focus on assembly in low volumes and a large mix of variations, coupled with small to medium series sizes. A well-functioning logistics system is crucial for this. Our ERP package is ideally suited for this. This logistics system ensures that we can manufacture a huge range of variations without compromising on delivery time and cost price.

Decoupling torques

Ordering the desired version from your own product range at the last minute? No problem, we set up production so that the basic products are assembled in larger numbers. The different variants are custom produced in smaller numbers using decoupling moments. A perfect mix of flexibility and the right cost price.

This approach enables us to set up complex product structures with different decoupling moments. This allows us to assemble a large number of variants of a product line with short lead times, at a favorable cost.

Monitoring and testing

We establish control and testing procedures in close consultation with our customers and these are safeguarded with comprehensive work instructions. This allows us to perform and document every degree of control and measurement upon request. With the right measuring equipment and people available in this department, we guarantee that every product leaves the shop floor according to the agreed specifications.

Serial assembly

At our Dordrecht facility, we assemble serial finished products and subassemblies to customer specifications. With thorough knowledge of 5S-lean methodologies, products are assembled here in medium to large series. This work is done with our mixed people concept. This means that the majority of the people on the shop floor are distanced from the labor market. They are supported by experienced production staff. This mixed people concept ensures that your products are produced cost-effectively and in a socially responsible manner. We are convinced that job satisfaction and appreciation are essential for everyone's well-being. We therefore consider it important and natural to contribute to a more inclusive labor market in society.

Smart assembly techniques

The serial assembly work that Confed performs for its customers has a repetitive and structural character. They therefore lend themselves very well to an efficient and effective method of production. Our focus is on the cost-effective assembly of these recurring products. All processes surrounding the assembly are set up according to a certain methodology. With the aim of as much peace, regularity and predictability as possible. In this way we provide the ideal working environment for our employees. There is a continuous focus on quality with the help of techniques such as Operator Support Systems, jigs, customer-specific, and generic test equipment.

For support in setting up production lines, we work closely with our customers and with a strategic partner, Total Productivity. This partner is very experienced and has knowledge of all assembly techniques that exist in the market. All factors related to productivity, quality and safety during production are addressed. Robotics and Cobotics, internal transport, sensors, tools and tooling, operator support, CE inspection, stop systems and (light) screens are all issues that are scrutinized.

Guidance and support

We now have years of experience working with employees with a distance to the labor market. We know the regulations and the rest of the playing field in detail. In addition, we are very skilled and experienced in the guidance and support of our employees. For example, we ensure that the physical environment, work pressure and predictability are well suited to the employees who have extra needs. This leads to satisfied, loyal and motivated employees and to the best results for our customers.

Close cooperation

The work we perform in this field can be seen as an extension of our customers' production facilities, that the cooperation is so close. For example, the production lines are set up by mutual agreement and we determine together who is responsible for the tooling and other resources. Such cooperation only works if the interests of both parties are aligned, namely the cost-effective performance of repetitive work.
